What you need to know
Deciding to get hair extensions is exciting! Whether it’s for a life changing experience to get the hair you never had or the hair you lost, or for a stunning new look, get your questions answered before you begin!
These are my most popular questions:
How much experience
do you have?
I have 6 years of hair extension experience and 9 years of hairstyling experience in the salon. I have done hundreds of hair extension applications and have a loyal revolving extension clientele of over 40 clients. My skills accomplish anything from short thick bobs to long flowing looks, I also do fringe work and semi-perminanent hair replacement on men and women with extremely fine hair.
How much does it
cost?
I customize every client’s application to their current hair, desired look, head shape, brand of extensions, and lifestyle. I offer free consultations to receive an accurate price quote. Here are some guidelines that apply to my clients:
Semi-permanent hair replacement for very thin, see through hair- $ at consultation
Thickness the same length as your hair $200-$800
Length to extend your hair $800-$1,500
Length and thickness $1,000 to $2,900
Length and thickness $1,000 to $2,900
Please keep in mind this is a broad range and I can give you a much better idea over the phone (515)278-2054 or at the salon. The price includes hair extensions and application, haircut, and advanced color design of the hair extensions. Extra costs are sales tax, and depending on brand; a hairbrush, or shampoo and conditioner.
Do hair extensions
cause breakage?
My priority is the integrity of your hair. The goal is to make your hair better, not worse! I am very honest with my clients about the condition of their hair. Most clients never have any breakage; however these are some cases I have seen hair breakage occur:
Very fine hair combined with poor diet, malnutrition, and/or prescription drugs.
Receiving coloring and styling services at another salon (this is allowed with some brands)
Negligence of recommended hair extension maintenance schedule.
Lifestyle abuse including:
Repetitive tight ponytails that cause excess tension on the hair. Activities that cause severe tangling without braiding the extensions (jet skiing, motorcycles, convertibles, etc.)Excessive teasing and ratting of the hair with the overuse of hairspray. Non-brushing of the hair usually during extended periods of bed rest or depression.
Hair breakage is not an acceptable part of hair extensions. Anytime I see a client with any breakage I bring it to their attention immediately and work to resolve the cause. In 3 cases when cause could not be found I have recommend extension removal to avoid further damage. I would rather turn away the money than risk damage to a client’s hair, and my reputation. Clients with very fine and fragile hair are recommended to use only the Microlinks and Microaccents system.
How long do they
last?
The longevity of your extensions greatly depends on how much your hair sheds and grows. Reusable extensions last up to a year with maintenance every 5-12 weeks depending on brand. Disposable extensions last 2- 4 months. Semi-Permanent hair replacements shed safely without being removed. Please note the diagram.

Stage 1 Stage 2 Stage 3 Stage 4
Stage 1: A new application is close to the scalp. Extension is well supported by the amount of the client’s hair it is attached to.
Stage 2: Some of the client’s hair has shed naturally and is trapped at the point of attachment. Extensions are still well supported and easy to brush and style. Client’s hair is still strong with plenty of unshed hair still attached to the scalp. There is some growth away from the scalp. With the reusable brand of extensions maintenance is preformed at this stage. Some semi-permanent hair replacements have shed and are replaced at this stage.
Stage 3: The client’s natural hair has grown significantly, making it hard to style and brush with out “catching”. There has been a decent amount of natural shedding, causing the shedded hair to “hug” together. The client has a smaller amount of their natural hair supporting the weight of the extension and the shedded hair combined. Removal is preformed at this stage with disposable extensions.
Stage 4: Danger zone. Excess weight is pulling on just a few stands of hair; hair has grown from the scalp several inches past a manageable state. Shedded hair is now matting. Do not get to this stage!
What is the best
brand or system for me?
At your consultation I will give my professional recommendation of the system that best fits your desires and your hair type. You can check the comparison chart on the hair extension page to find out the differences in all 5 systems.

When can I get it
done?
Some hair extensions can be delivered in 2 days others require special ordering 4-6 weeks.. I am always happy to fit in a new client so you don’t have to wait too long to get in,(usually within a week) that way once you get your initial appointment we can schedule maintinence, or removal and reapplications further in advance. Most existing extension clients book 2-4 months in advance.
What is the payment
policy?
Deposits are required to order hair and make an appointment. Deposits are 50% to 75% down depending on the system of extensions chosen. Hair is not returnable so deposits are non-refundable. You cannot lose your deposit for rescheduling appointments, family emergencies, or acts of God. If you do not show up for your appointment and do not call to reschedule without just cause, a $100 fee will be added to the final cost do to a large amount of downtime on my schedule. Deposits can be made cash, check, debit card, or credit card.
Remainder
of service cost is due upon completion at the time of appointment. Final payment must be made cash, debit card,
or credit card. No checks are accepted at the final appointment.
